According to different abrasive materials, there are a variety of emery paper, artificial emery paper, glass sandpaper and so on. Dry sandpaper (wood sandpaper) is used to polish the surface of wood and bamboo. Water-resistant sandpaper (water sandpaper) is used to polish the surface of metal or non-metallic workpieces in water or oil.
In actual use, the classification of sandpaper is not uniform.
Commonly used are 400 # 600 # 1000 # 1200 # 1500 # 2000 #.
For example, W10 stands for No. 04 sandpaper, 800 mesh. The specifications of other types of sandpaper are compared as follows:
Abrasive, micron particle size number | Sandpaper code | Size range (m) |
280 | 1 | ~ 40 |
320 (M40 or W40) | 0 | 40 28 |
400 (M28 or W28) | 1 | 28 20 |
500 (M20 or W20) | 2 | 20 14 |
600 (M14 or W14) | 3 | 14 10 |
800 (M10 or W10) | 4 | 10 7 |
1000 (M7 or W7) | 5 | 7 5 |
1200 (M5 or W5) | 6 | 5 3.5 |
1400 (M3.5 or W3.5) | 7 | 3.5 3.0 |
1600 (M3 or W3) | 8 | 3.0 2.5 |
1800 (M2.5 or W2.5) | 9 | 2.5 2.0 |
2000 (M2 or W2) | 10 | 2.0 1.5 |
2500 (M1.5 or W1.5) | | 1.5 1.0 |
3000 (M1 or W1) | | 1.0 0.5 |
3500 (M0.5 or W0.5) | | 0.5 finer |
4000 (M0.1 or W0.1) | | |
* The particle size number is expressed by mesh or particle size, and is the number of particles in an area of 1 inch * 1 inch.
Example: 1000, which means that the sand grain size is 25.4 microns.
